A Ghost In The Shell

Humans are….. impressionable beings by nature, a trait caused by the immense adaptability we are gifted with, the very thing that took us from hunter gatherers to the dominant lifeforms on this planet, from rubbing rocks together to make fire to terraforming the planet to our needs.

It is this adaptability, and this endless wonder and passion for seeing not just what is, but what could be, that drove us from looking to the heavens with wonder as our ancestors once did, to building massive structures of steel and titanium that harness the power of chemical reactions so that we could go and see for ourselves.

One of the things that has affected by childhood the most and therefore my very core is science-fiction.

I’m a diehard fan of Ironman, and the charismatic, wholly jaw dropping way in which Robert Downey Jr portrayed him in the MCU. One of my most desperate desires is to stand and have a robotic suit wrap around me and cocoon me into a shell capable of awesome feats of strength and ___________.

Mechs have been one of the things ive also loved, and whenever I’d get a lego set as a child, the parts would inevitably and invariably get repurposed for my next awesome mech, with the designs getting more complex (and might I say, awesome the older I got).

I first got a glimpse of Titanfall 2 when I randomly clicked on a video about games that had unique mechanics. The clip was from a level of Titanfall 2 I would later come to know as Effect and Cause (and yes, there is a reason the words are reversed, though I won’t spoil it for you).

The level has a unique mechanic, although that wasn’t what caught my eye. You see, in this game, you had a 10 ton robot companion, known as a “Titan”, that was freely available, meaning you could jump into and use, and then subsequently get out of, the tiyan whenever your heart desired, with not even a cool down.

Technology has been a lifelong fascination for me, and robots have been a huge part of that. Mechs, especially controllable mechs, have been something that has, does, and most likely always will make me feel like a kid again.
